>>Laws protecting homeowners who use lethal force to defend against home invasion are still irregular in the US. Often if the intruder turns out to be unarmed there is a problem or if the homeowner did not reasonably fear for their own life. In any case, in most of the US there is going to be an legal hassle.

>>An armed home invader breaking into a house will probably serve less time than somebody dealing drugs to people who want drugs and is not using a weapon to do it.

>>Stand your ground laws are another issue and generally concern defending oneself outside the the home. As anyone who knows anything about self-defense will tell you the first rule is flee or avoid conflict if you can. The second rule is if the first is not possilbe, strike first, and so decisively as to end the fight. No points for fighting fair or fair warning. Points for surviving. Once the dust settles you live by your judgement, which is an excellent reason to avoid those situations to begin with - which is generally remarkably easy to do.

>If someone breaks into my home and I have the chance, he/they will become part of the landscape in the pasture. I would not involve the 'law' unless I could not avoid it (I'm not waiting for some ACLU a-hole to say I violated someone's 'rights' to violate my home). My home. My castle. Someone violates it with criminal intent has no safety net here.

We are completely on the same page once a home invasion has started. That's why Franchi makes the SPAS-15 and Brenneke makes those great THD loads.

I meant that if I really thought there was a serious home invasion threat where I lived I'd live somewhere else. I realize everyone does not have that choice, but I think where and how one lives is the culmination of a lifetime of choices and should be seen that way from the get go.

Of course in moving through the outside world one has even more choice about avoiding situations where only lethal force would ensure survival. I used to dance a lot closer to the edge than I do now and I still found thinking ahead and making the best possible choices was the best defense. Even when my drug of choice was adrenaline I was pretty sure that any day I really needed to be armed to feel safe was probably an occasion for thinking very seriously about career and lifestyle choices :-)

I've known people - more than a few - who carried and I knew hoped somebody would give them reason. That isn't my thing.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
