>>>Ok so he calls a "press conference" - yaks for 25 minutes ...and takes no questions. Among the more ludicrous and insulting things he said:
>>>He is calling for armed police in all schools. Ummm..ok couple of things about that -armed personnel at Columbine High School and Fort Hood didn't seem to stop those shootings. And how long before we'd have a headline about one of these guys shooting an unarmed student? I bet it would take no more than 6months - a year at most. Aside from all of that - you know how many cops that would take? It quite a few good sized cities it would require over 1/2 their local police force!!!
>>>You'd think that after the slaughter of a bunch of elementary-school children by a guy using a semi-automatic rifle, the group might soften its stance a little bit. Tell ya what though - I just lost all respect for the NRA.
>>
>>
>>Why not issue all legal United State Citizens, fully automatic weapons with 100 round banana clips? You would also become a full lifetime member of the NRA.
>>
>>Another idea is to arm all children in school (regardless of age), preschools included.
>>
>>School campuses that I am aware of in many states have multiple buildings. I know of no police force with a large enough staff to protect all the school buildings.
>>
>>Why limit the protection to schools? Why not the workplace, shopping malls, gas stations, restaurants, etc. We should be protected whereever we go. This includes where we drive.
>>
>>A United States Marine was driving on hiway 85 in San Jose two days ago, when someone shot out the windows of his car and shot the side of his car full of holes. The Marine was not injured. They closed down the freeway for hours. If a Marine is not safe, who is?
>>
>>Why should I feel safe if I am walking down the street or in my house? Someone is out to shoot me! I demand protection!
>>
>>
>>Someone I know very well went to work for the United States Post Office, several years ago. As a “joke” he said that when he reported to work the first day he was asked: “Do you want an AK-47 or M-16”? This was because of so many post office employees being killed on the job.

>It's really a pollution problem. From the POV of (most of) the rest of the world, the US is badly polluted with antipersonnel firearms. It's gone past the tipping point, and now you're all literally in an arms race with one another. Firearm makers are laughing all the way to the bank.

I am a little bemused when I see intelligent people like Charles and Bill Kuhn talking about their home security in terms of firepower. I think if I lived in a place where my home defence had to consist of more than securely locking my doors at night I'd want to move. I genuinely feel sorry for US citizens on both side of the gun debate.
