>>That's the first time I have heard of being afraid of the sun, but we take it in stride. Although the temperature reached minus 53 a few years ago and the sun was bright. At minus 53, the slightest breeze could very quickly become deadly, but we have clothing to fight back. I have a down filled parka with an insulated hood that has fur around the part that is near and over a person's face. And we wear layers of clothing. Others wear full body snowmobile suits. For the most part, people here take it in stride and carry on with they daily routine. The kids still go to school and parents go to work. And of course, my stupid cat still wants to go outside every ten minutes. There are products such as gas line anti freeze that are needed so that cars will run, if they can be started. However, spending a day on a southern beach in Cyprus is preferable to our winter. Many retired Canadians travel south to cities such as Yuma Arizona for up to six months every year. We call them 'snowbirds'.

>Then I had a chance to experience it first hand in Montreal, early this year (Feb).
>After initial temperature shock (From CY+19c I landed to -26c in Montreal!), interestingly so I got used to CN weather very quickly!
>Hotel was right next to that underground mall (more like city!) in downtown Montreal, so for most part of my stay I was actually very lightly dressed.
>Most places are heated very very well, so at the end I did not use almost any of the clothes I purchased (a pile!) next day after that rough instant-freeze-shock landing... :))
>Only thing that bothered me in Canada were those Nazi like anti-smoking policies. Could not smoke anywhere!

French Canada has some unusual rules to protect their language too. The no smoke laws are getting worse. :-)
I ain't skeert of nuttin eh?
