I know for a fact that the rest of the western world can live with much tighter gun control and have a lot less violence in their societies. The US is the only country in the world that truly thinks that more guns is giving you safer society.

It totally stumps me, and the slaughters of the last month, don't indicate that more guns is going to stop nutcases. The only way you can stop nutcases from killing innocent people is to prevent lethal guns to be available to large parts of the society, simply because there are too many nutcases.

This is why the gun control does work here, but somehow the US thinks it is special in some way and know better than the rest of the world.

Criminals will always be able to get guns, and use them to kill others, as is the case up here.
However the more you can prevent nutcases, or even normal law respecting citizens to kill innocent people the better.

Please don't come up with those emotional silly cases where someone was able to defend themselves because for each such case, there are about 43 cases where a gun killed a human being outside the 'self defence' area.

Even the 2nd amendment as someone pointed a link is being abused for the purpose of the whole discussion. First of all militia is something different than the whole population, seconds, the founding fathers did not oppose gun control, in fact they were favouring that guns would only be available to qualified citizens for the purpose to defend their society through militia. But that of course is conveniently omitted by the NRA

Anyways, if this ain't changing in the upcoming decade, the US will slide towards a third world country. In fact regularly visiting the US, I see that in some area's it already is, like for example health care, and public safety. Only if you have money you can conveniently live in the US. If you don't, you might as well live in Cuba, and are way better off in for example Canada.
