A generation ago Republicans and Democrats would debate legislation all day -- there are genuine policy differences between the parties -- and then meet in someone's office for a drink afterward. That kind of collegiality doesn't seem to exist any more, at least not in the House.

From what I kept hearing, they do go together to a different house with special services, but I can't imagine the atmosphere there is conductive to talking politics. The personnel there has reputation of selling information.
