>In Internet Explorer, the browser will show the recognized file type when downloading a file. In Firefox, this is not standard. This doesn't work all the time. Sometimes, a Word XML (2003+) will be recognized. Sometimes, the same file will be known as Word 97-2003. And, this is vice versa for Word regular file. In Chrome, when downloading a file, there is no recognition so we can see visually what we are downloading as far as the type goes.

Didn't we discuss something like this a while back? ISTR FireFox for one is just looking at the file extension and leveraging Windows registered file types, so .doc should show as Word 97-2003, .docx as Word 2007+ etc.
