At least, you can shop somewhere else and price shop from a business that either provides better service or is less expensive. There are no options with either Apple or MS stores. Sort of a monopoly.

The money is starting to lean to apps. What I am seeing for the general user, is no need for a desktop or laptop computer. So the applications (money) is drying up in that market place.

The distribution of applications will soon be controlled by three companies. Do you really feel comfortable with having them be in control of what apps are delivered? Think about it.
