>Again, I disagree. It really is very simple and much easier.

It would be nice to have the new UI as a program, an option for users to run then available atop the traditional Win7 and earlier interface.

A very good tutorial. Very clear. I disagree with many of the forced features Win8 imposes. It's a categoric, abrupt shift with no ability to continue on with the newer version of Windows and its support timeframe as before, unless you adopt and adapt to Microsoft's new philosophy now being literally imposed upon you. There are also issues with the sudden forced suspension of background windows. Some applications might deal with 3rd party services ... and to have them drop suddenly might ... be bad.

It's something that should've been fielded as an app with a whole release of Windows (at least) to handle the migration, and give people the opportunity to choose, to let the market decide what people actually wanted. I can only conclude based on initial reaction from practically everybody I've spoken with (mostly developers) that Microsoft knew that people did not like the new interface, but wanted to go that way anyway, so rather than giving people the option (which they would reject most likely), Microsoft made the decision to go with their vision. A bold move. One I (and many) disagree with. Especially as it relates to new versions of tools which still operate on older versions of Windows, such as Visual Studio 2012 which, when first released with its "light" and "dark" color themes and all upper-case menu, looked like a Windows 2.x application.

I also noted that in this example, running on a desktop machine with (theoretically) nearly unlimited resources, it also suspends background modern UI applications. :-(
