The one thing in all of this I would definitely suggest is to use the Novell Client. We ran into several problems with older 2.x DOS apps when we first started using Windows95 and the person I talked to at M$ suggested using the Novell Client stating it was more robust and stable and we haven't had a problem since.

More to your concern though, my development team is using VSS on a Novell network and we are not experiencing the slowness you describe. So, it may very well be the client. Good luck.
