Mine was a '90 - one of the last 'big bodies'. I knew it would be slow off the line, rotaries have no torque, but having the double 'power zone' wa great. As I told people "You might leave me at the line, but I'll be past you before you hit 3rd." One of the quickest cars 60-90 I've ever had, after the Bonneville. I do miss that feeling of the rear end tucking up under you when you hit it hard.

I've never understood the draw of turbos and really, when you look at it, the rotary engine IS a turbo anyway, but I'd much rather have a supercharger - the Thunderbird SC was quite impressive.

Got pulled over one night for doing a 3rd gear pullout around a dweeb doing 45 in the left hand lane on the freeway and after the cop got done looking at the car he asked me how fast would it go? I told him I really didn't know. He said what, afraid? I said no, keep running out of road - but I do know it'll do 120 easy. He told me to have a good evening. No ticket.

>I know exactly what you mean about age. It's hard to believe I'm not still 23.

>What year was your RX-7? I had one of those, a 1987, and it was the one car that truly disappointed me. Maybe it was due to coming on the heels of two Corvettes and being my supposed compromise car. It was a turbo and had the infamous turbo lag. What a dog. Not that I do this kind of thing any more -- I really don't -- but I want a car that can explode from a stop light like an NFL linebacker. Detonation.

>>One of the first cars I remember was a 1964 Buick Riviera with the Wildcat 425 under the hood
>>
>>My first (to drive) was a 1970 Bonneville with a 455 High Compression under the hood. Went from that to a '74 Corolla and from that to a '77 Trans Am with the 400 under the hood, which we later traded out for a 455 from a station wagon - ran me 13 second 1/4 miles and drove me to school every day.
>>
>>When my RX-7 died, I ended up with a Dodge Stratus (2002) that currently has 130,000+ miles on it and will run 80-85 without breathing hard.
>>
>>Hey...I turned 53 3 weeks ago and I still feel 28, mentally at least since my left knee wants me to know that it's cool and damp out there this morning

>>>Another good one. It's like all the muscle cars of the 60s have come back.
>>>
>>>My first car was a Delta 88 on its last legs, a rustbucket. I think that is the kind of first car everyone should have. My first new car was a Toyota Corolla. Then I had this exact same urge for a road monster, which turned out to be a 1983 Trans Am, the one with the black firebird on the raised hood. Whoa baby.
>>>
>>>It's true that I was 26 then and am 55 now, about to turn 56 -- my birthday is tomorrow -- but don't feel that much different. That has probably been the most surprising thing in life.
