I am really surprised that you say that. As the creator of intellectual property, which is the way software is described legally, I don't get why you think anyone should be free to use your work with no compensation to you. If you choose to make your programming work freely available. -- which I mention only in passing Doug has done on a grand scale -- that is your choice. That doesn't mean anything in digital form is fair game without the permission of the author.
