>>Probably Lianja won't be in a few years either. They are a pretty small company, after all.

Actually Recital is pretty big- that Recital engine crops up all over the place, e.g. in money machines in thousands of banks.

>>The safest bet is to go big: like Microsoft or Google OR go Open Source. Small proprietary software tool companies that try to do it all are sooo last century.

Seems to me the mobile market is wide open for this decade's version of dbase followed by Fox followed by ... This is going to be driven by smaller companies that will keep being bought and wrecked by the behemoths, as usual, though we'll still see incremental benefits for the rest of the decade. But the concept of ever-larger, ever-more-complicated Rube Goldberg development tools is indeed last century! Rube Goldberg development certainly made some developers a lot of money... but technology is supposed to reduce cost and complexity and if developers aren't part of that, the world will pass us by.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
