I am perhaps overly sceptic of automatic translation/generation (mostly for the ballooning testing needed), but I prefer the "library" concept even if I realize that the interpreter implementation on each device needs to be tested as well. Being around for long time certainly helps in respect to having debugged code if they do not introduce too many errors in new versions into previously errorfree code - don't mind errors in new stuff to be ironed out till next release.
