>>I think this sentence is widely applicable. The world is complex and reality is nuanced and trying to understand it in slogans is futile.

Here's a slogan that describes most other simplistic slogans: "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Most simple answers to complex questions fall directly into that category. For my part, I fully understand the attraction of the simple answer and almost envy those who can find it in themselves to replace tough considerations with a chant.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
