What really helped was that, in my last job, we hired a bunch of new developers. I had written (and was in charge of the Team for) the Framework that all of our apps were based on. I had to give training classes to all those new developers. Knowing the material really well (since I wrote it all) really helped make it easy to talk to all the noobs, even in a large-ish group.
