>>>>>The irony of religion is that because of its power to divert man to destructive courses, the world could actually come to an end. The plain fact is, religion must die for mankind to live. The hour is getting very late to be able to indulge in having in key decisions made by religious people. By irrationalists, by those who would steer the ship of state not by a compass, but by the equivalent of reading the entrails of a chicken.

>But I always doubt the religious politicians. Their allegiance is double - to their religion and to their voters. In case these pose conflicting demands, I'm not sure they'll always put people first. Nor that they did so in the past (but we wouldn't know, would we?).

Yeah I've thought about that many times. I seriously doubt an atheist politician would have much of a chance in the USA...which is sad. I know there are more atheist here now than ever before, but many won't admit it because when you do people get the wrong idea. I had a job in Texas a while back and when my boss found out I was agnostic/atheist he was actually convinced that I would not have a problem committing a murder because I surely had no values or morals because there was no fear of god.

>And the way religion invades language. Apart from the example you used, a bigger one: what was the other exclamation of utter surprise, apart from "oh shit"? Just watch any dozen movies with any amount of exciting scenes, and count the times when it was the omg vs any others. Even the greetings were taken over.
