>>>Hi,
>>>
>>>I am in the SSMS 2005 and I want to restore a backup but with a different name that the existing database (to compare the changes, if any). When I right mouse click on the Database I see choices Restore Database and Restore Files and Groups. Do I need first to create an empty database with a different name and then restore into it? (I have done it once before but forgot the steps).

>What is strange (to me) is when I click on the Options button, the Restore the Database Files As table shows the "good" database that I do not want to overwrite. Yet in the General tab the To Database shows the name of the different name. I am sure it is something simply I am missing.
Here is what I generated using Script button
USE [master]
RESTORE DATABASE [TestRestore] FROM DISK = N'C:\SQL DB Backups\All DBs\AdventureWorks2008R2.bak' WITH FILE = 1, NOUNLOAD, REPLACE, STATS = 5
GO
It failed for me with Access Denied error, so I didn't re-try again. I suggest to close SSMS and use a similar command after you re-open SSMS.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
