If it could be recognized that the only thing people lose in sharing digital content is their own personal empire, and that the people who receive the digital content have received far greater gains than any personal losses (due to the number of them who can receive it -- all of them who have digital devices), then all of this would end overnight.

Digital content is not like other things. It can be replicated without error to the extent of the online world. And nothing is lost because the first person putting it out there still has their copy as well. The only things lost are the invisible monopolistic fortresses people like to erect around their work (the kind that bring them personal gain (money, power) at the expense and detriment of everybody else).

It goes like this:
All digital content should be global communal property residing in the public domain. This includes all software, all movies, all music, all web content, everything that is conveyed digitally. It should be this way because nothing is lost when copies are made ... except the individual's personal invisible monopolistic fortress. And that's something we can all do without when you consider the tremendous gain had by the other 6+ billion people on the planet.
