>>I read an article last week (which I could find it again) - that the makers of doritos and tostitos (Frito Lay) have had their scientists make the chips so that ingredients actually trick the brain into thinking you're still hungry - even if you are not....so basically what happens is you can devour 5 bags of chips - but your brain is till telling you that you're not satisfied.

Which reminds me of the time when Mcdonalds was confronted by many angry customers who claimed that the so-called "food" they serve in Europe tastes much better than what they eat in the US. Mcdonald confessed that it's because of the localized composition of oil they use, and that they will do some research on how to improve the taste at home.

What research? Couldn't they just apply their european recipe at home? There's nothing to invent, they already have it and even own it, so there's no so-called "intellectual property" to buy.

The underlying reason, I guess, for this unwilling to modify the recipe ("we'll do some research" is a politically rectified form of "sod off, we won't change a thing"), is the cost. They always sell the cheapest they can't get away with, and in Europe the bar isn't as low. European mix of oils would cost them more - unthinkable!

Same goes for Coca-cola - I've just had another confession from an American visiting here, that it does taste much better here.

What, me reckless? I'm full of recks!
Balkans, eh? Count them.
