>>>>>>New York City's limits on sugary drinks are not legal, a state judge ruled Monday. The ban on large-sized sugary drinks was set to go into effect on Tuesday.

How would people here feel if, instead of banning large drinks, the law required that anyplace selling sugary drinks had to provide at least one actually small (8 oz. or 12 oz. maximum) size? IOW, they had to offer people the chance to buy a single serving, but could then go up as large as they wanted?

>>>One of the ones that drives me crazy right now is that you can't get a single-serving size of pretzels or potato chips. When I pick up a sandwich to take to my User Group meeting, I'd love to have a 1-oz. bag or a 100-calorie pack, but those aren't generally available in places that make sandwiches. The smallest pack is nearly 2-oz. and about 250 calories. I know myself well enough to know that once that kind of package is open, I'm going to eat them all, so most of the time, I don't buy them. (Now and then, my willpower is low and I do.)

>>I read an article last week (which I could find it again) - that the makers of doritos and tostitos (Frito Lay) have had their scientists make the chips so that ingredients actually trick the brain into thinking you're still hungry - even if you are not....so basically what happens is you can devour 5 bags of chips - but your brain is till telling you that you're not satisfied.

Another guy at the forefront of the sugar resistance, NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg, was the featured guest on the Letterman show earlier this week. Talk about a dull guest. I give New Yorkers credit for electing him their mayor for 12 years -- competence over entertainment value. The other reason I am impressed by him is he intends to give his considerable fortune to good causes before he dies. Salud.
