Thanks Jos. this is where it breaks down. i don't think it even makes it to a .dll.

my program issues this command:
SET LIBRARY TO c:\db\docs\vfpcompression.fll
the response from vfp is:
Library file c:\db\docs\vfcompression.fll is invalid

i replaced the fll file with the one on my other computer still operating office 2007 and working, with no change in the result - still the message about invalid file.

to start with after the installation of office 2010 i got error about missing msvcr71.dll which i solved by replacing the one that was taken out of windows/system32 directory during the installation process. i wonder if this could have anything to do with it.

>Karen, we have used VFP8 and VFP9 with Office 2010 for many years without any issues. It is possible that the installation of Office 2010 has changed or upgraded a DLL that the vfpcompresion.fll library uses and there lies the problem. But you will need to give more error info in order to understand the specific issue. How is the compression operation related to the use of Office and what is the actual error message.
