I would actually suggest you check out other third party solutions which in general are much more lightweight (ie. they're not server products) and are more modern than either of these behemoths. I've used ActiveReports before for a few applications and its very straightforward to use and has a ton of output options and allows endless customization via code and a good bit with their designer. I've also used DevExpress' Report tools briefly for a few apps and they have a similar feature set. I'd recommend checking out either one of these.
