It probably is a good way to go if you are getting into web development from scratch, as it does allow a lighter weight client to be developed.
For the web apps I develop (very rich client side), I much prefer ASP.NET webforms. I find them much faster to develop and modify.
That's just my personal preference. It is biased I'm sure by the fact that MVC was not an option when I got into web development.
