If you're working on your hardware it might be a good idea to see if some related updates are available for your machine:

- BIOS/firmware
- Chipset/SATA drivers

You should be able to find those on the manufacturer's web site.

There are several things this might buy you:

- maximum performance from your higher-performance drive
- more reliable operation - sometimes original firmware/drivers are tested only against mechanical drives, and can behave unexpectedly with SSDs
- support for new drive functions such as TRIM that don't exist with mechanical drives
