We always have recruiters at our .Net user group. One company or another always "sponsors" by buying the pizza.

At our recent code camp, almost all sponsors were there to recruit, even one from out of state. And they paid $1000 for the privilege to be there. A couple of the companies had been there in the past, so they must see it as beneficial.
