>>>>Statistics prove that having a gun in your house makes you less safe, not more safe...however this information is ignored by many - like the NRA who seem to think that best way to beat the gun problem is to have more guns. When the U.N. voted on international gun control I noticed that those against it were: North Korea, Syria, and Iran. Oh and of course the NRA made a big deal about how they were against it too. Tells you something about the NRA doesn't it?

>>No surprise there..and if he was charged with anything I'm sure his police union would defend him vigorously.
>>This is also equally disturbing: "...."He took all the precautions, he's a trained law enforcement officer, trains with weapons all the time."
>>Deputy Fanning also works as a school resource officer at Lebanon's Sam Houston Elementary....' - Needless to say I don't have to go into all the things I see wrong with THAT statement. Now if the people involved here would of been not been a cop, from a poor inner-city neighborhood and black, I'm sure the reaction would be a tad different - there would be charges filed and the statement would start out with "He did not take precautions...".

I know some states (maybe all of them..I don't know) have laws about failing to secure a loaded weapon. There is a police chief in N.H. that was just charged with that as matter of fact....his girlfriend's 15year old son ended up shooting himself (supposedly - the police are being rather vague on what really happened). The penalty for this is a max of $1,000 fine. http://www.eagletribune.com/breakingnews/x1641179503/Police-chief-faces-charge-in-teens-death
It's just another example of how stupid it is to actually think you're safer having a gun in your house than not. Last time I checked there were 3,413 gun deaths in the USA since Newtown - that is DEATHS - if you take into account the number of people shot but not killed that number really skyrockets. But remember what the NRA says - the only way to combat this gun violence problem is - to have MORE guns! and guns in schools! What a bunch of money-hungry greedy jackasses. I would actually have a little more respect for them if they'd just come out and say its a money thing instead of trying to act like they're protecting us from something. Tell ya what I want - some protection from them!
