Guns are in about 18 to 1 situations more dangerous - the exception being a crowd and trouble only threatening.
Knife coming into play suddenly and silently at close quarters by somebody trained in use can be ugly as hell.
Another IMO bad aspect of guns is that the difference between trained and untrained is lesser than with other tools.
If you really want to be prepared, you need to carry both if going into some places.
