I did a bit more texting and it looks like the programis working but very slowely under a scheduled task. I have a temp table that I updated once per loop and when I run the program manually it completes in under 6 minutes but run manually it is perhaps 10% of the way through in 10 minutes.

In the first is connects to a SQL server and reads in data, compares it to a dbf file, updates where necessary and then closes itself. In the second it extracts data from a dbf and updates excel. Both run with no issues when double clicked in the folder. However when running in task scheduler they get they either don't complete or do complete but the program doesn't exit so when it tries to launch the program again 30 minutes later it fails because there is an instance already running.
