Priority is the keyword there. Keep googling you'll find zillions of other polls saying 90% of American's want stricter background checks.

>Of course only 4% actually consider gun-control a priority so what does that 90% actually mean?

>>Yep - this is one of the most (probably THE most) appalling things I've seen our senators do. When 90% of their constituents want them to vote a certain way and they don't do it because lobbyists are lining their pockets then it's a HUGE HUGE HUGE failure.
>>I've already sent a letter to both of of my Hawaii senators (I think they properly voted for it) expressing my disappointment and lack of faith in our leadership. These jackasses that stopped this have not just lost their moral compass - they've obliterated it. How these aholes can sleep at night and look at themselves in the mirror is beyond my comprehension.

>>>Yes narrow self interest wins the day again. Obviously your gun owning culture is working perfectly so why bother to change anything.
>>>
>>>Heres to the next moody teenager or grumpy ex employee with access to arsenals of weaponry and a grudge to settle.
>>>
>>>>I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wish the rest of the Constitution had as successfull a group defending it as the NRA does for the 2nd.
>>>>
>>>>In a major defeat for supporters of tougher gun laws, the U.S. Senate on Wednesday defeated a compromise plan to expand background checks on firearms sales as well as a proposal to ban some semi-automatic weapons modeled after military assault weapons.
>>>>
>>>>The votes were on a series of amendments to a broad package of gun laws pushed by President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders in the aftermath of the Newtown school massacre in December.
>>>>
>>>>However, fierce opposition by the powerful National Rifle Association led a backlash by conservative Republicans and some Democrats from pro-gun states that doomed some of the major proposals in the gun package.
