>Yeah I keep hearing that fantasy argument too. Back in the 1920's we had a real problem with gangsters mowing down people with machine guns - so they outlawed them & they all pretty much disappeared. If the good old boys are worried perhaps they don't want the gubmint knowing they have arsenal of weapons and 50,000 rounds of ammo to go with their ak47s.
>
>>I think they are worried that when Obama creates the Socialist republic of America gubmint agents will come after all the good old boys with guns if they've had to give their addresses and prove they aren't mad as a bag of spanners...
>>
>>>I think his message to them is "screw you"....but anyway what he's saying is ridiculous. There are a bunch of people every year that don't get guns now because of background checks - so it does have some effect already. Making it stricter would just filter out some more folks that shouldn't have them. Of course the sad part is if the don't pass the background check, they can just go to a gun show and get one because they don't do background checks there - and of course these dirtbag bought & paid for politicians sure as hell won't do anything about that. The whole thing is just sicking.
>>>
>>>>So whats your message for those who want some sort of solution. Or do you not think there's a problem.
>>>>
>>>>>The background check would've done nothing to stop the next moody teenager or grumpy ex employee. Unless of course you're suggesting what I'm suggesting was the whole point which is to connect the 2 dots.
>>>>>
>>>>>>Yes narrow self interest wins the day again. Obviously your gun owning culture is working perfectly so why bother to change anything.
>>>>>>
>>>>>>Heres to the next moody teenager or grumpy ex employee with access to arsenals of weaponry and a grudge to settle.
>>>>>>
>>>>>>>I've said it before and I'll say it again, I wish the rest of the Constitution had as successfull a group defending it as the NRA does for the 2nd.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>In a major defeat for supporters of tougher gun laws, the U.S. Senate on Wednesday defeated a compromise plan to expand background checks on firearms sales as well as a proposal to ban some semi-automatic weapons modeled after military assault weapons.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>The votes were on a series of amendments to a broad package of gun laws pushed by President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders in the aftermath of the Newtown school massacre in December.
>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>However, fierce opposition by the powerful National Rifle Association led a backlash by conservative Republicans and some Democrats from pro-gun states that doomed some of the major proposals in the gun package.
