>>And you're basing a retreat on numbers of publicly accessed servers for online commerce?

Consider my comments wrt "how to make a living." As people migrate from PC to mobile, both Linux and Windows lose market share. Sure Server rooms remain populated by Linux and Windows boxes, but in that case you need to consider how you'll make $ if you accept the movement towards native mobile apps. Even the most successful web entities are moving to native apps on devices. If you're going to stay on the server then you'd better figure out what OS is prevalent and why somebody will want to pay you. Linux may be the most prevalent, but how much ongoing development will there be? Perhaps Windows is more secure because its familiars are well-practiced at claiming that ASP.NET is wonderful for mobile apps... and if we look at past experience, just because OS2 was being creamed by Windows didn't dry up the OS2 development overnight so we can expect the same this time- maybe not for quite as long.

>>And would be good to source your numbers. Otherwise, their just statistics. And we know what that means.

If you have better numbers, lets see them! Meanwhile mine are laid out in a Wiki page on the first Google page when you search.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
