Thanks, I'll try to get an evaluation copy from them. I'm now deciding between Lianja, Webdev and FoxInCloud for the next generation of my ERP

>I did buy a copy of it and played with it only for about 2 or 3 weeks because our focus is still desktop. All 3 WinX products use the same IDE model, the same language and the same way of building applications but each has unique aspects which are specific to the target platform, obviously.
>
>WebDev, being web based, has special requirements regarding handling state between client and server. Then there is also the need to think about what code needs to run on the client side and what code needs to run on the server side. This is all handled very cleverly by the development environment.
>
>Not all WinX controls work in all WinX platforms, some are not appropriate for a platform, others have not yet been converted to a platform. Development is on-going in all 3 WinX platforms.
>
>There are sometimes complaints regarding how controls line up in web pages. I think this has much to do with browser differences and the vagaries of HTML rendering more than WebDev.
>
>WebDev can use Java, Ajax, HTML5, CSS, PHP, and many other web technologies. A WebDev website which you develop in WLanguage can even be converted to PHP.
>
>I have heard WebDev developers say there is no faster way to build websites in their opinion. If we ever build a web-based version of our products it will 100% sure be done in WebDev. I can leverage much of the same code, the same back-end database, the same language, to convert to web-based and only need to change/write web-based specific changes to handle issues mentioned above.

>>Have you tried webdev?
>>>A thought for die-hard VFP developers -
>>>
>>>Having spent some real time on WinDev now, building real-world applications and the like it dawns on me something VFP developers need to really think about. No matter how productive you think you are in VFP, the modern tools, like WinDev, are so far ahead with built-in functionality that they outpace anything you are currently achieving in VFP.
>>>
>>>For example, the table control in WinDev makes the VFP grid control look like something from the world of DOS dBase. It has so much power, functionality, pre-built options, features, settings that are all accessible with just a click on/off check-box or radio button that you achieve the desired result in a fraction of the time, often without coding.
>>>
>>>So what I'm saying is that its not VFP vs. .Net or vs. whatever - it's that in VFP you are stuck in a tool that will be progressively further behind the curve whilst modern dev tools like WinDev will make developers continuously more productive with each release.
>>>
>>>PS. I bought some training materials from http://www.sdcdev.net/ because for the relatively small price one can often pick up a few cool tricks, tips, techniques that make a world of difference. It's worth the money if you go the WinDev route. When you see what some of these controls do for you out of the box you really doubt the productivity argument of VFP developers.
