For a while my xp computer has got slower and slower. In the quest for efficiency I noticed a 2.5 gb file associated with windows search. We all know that if an index is too large is wont fit in memory and will defeat the purpose. By turning search indexer my pc speeded up quite a bit! The medicine was worse than the disease.

I normally search with Agent Ransack (thank you Sergey) and that doesnt seem to be any slower. Outlook seems to be reindexing its data without rindexing everything else. Windows explorer no longer seems to freeze when right clicking on an item.

Seems I had set up my pc to index all file content in itself as well as that of two other pcs in the network! At least it wasnt indexing the content of the qnap network attached appliance.
