Just last weekend, I was at a sporting clay pigeon shoot. At every station two birds where launched at once and at one station there was up to four. Not sure how that would have worked if I didn't have a semi-automatic shotgun. I went through 100 rounds of 12 gauge shells and I had a blast. btw, no accidental shootings as well.
