The main advantage of gardening, compared to programming, is that you not only see the results of your efforts, but the results are edible and still exist after you turn the machines off. And some of the results are potable. And you save on fitness.
Just this weekend I cut down three dead trees so they wouldn't fall on the nearby live ones. And the few dozen new trees we planted two years ago have started bearing fruit - not all of them yet, not much, but it looks promising. You don't get that with software - there's always more bugs to fix.
