We have a similar situation, where people use a hand held device to check the inventory in shops and warehouses. We created this application in C#. The device reads the necessary data before it's removed from the docking station, and the data is uploaded and synchronized when it's docked again.

Regarding Guinea, I suggest that you contact Christof directly. AFAIK the project is more or less put on hold.
