>>>>>If you use an Android device there's a good chance the salespeople already will have a device- since Android smartphones now have achieved >50% of smartphones. Then all you need is the app. I'm not sure of the situation in Aruba but if salespeople don't have smartphones or if the client wants to control the device, you can get Android devices out of China for <$100. This would be a 3G phone into which a sim card can be inserted for data connectivity or texting or one of the new "touch" features that allows phones to be touched to swap contact information. There are plenty of plugins and services to handle payments securely.

>>>Check out blue tooth printers, both for the android and for Win CE.

>>That is actually a pretty good solution, having a bluetooth printer separately which you can carry with you on the street, then you could work with any tablet that has bluetooth enabled.
>>Thinking a little bit further, I believe a Windows 8 Pro tablet would run VFP applications without problems? So using the GSM network they can connect to the client server database and no further changes or licenses would be required to do that. And the clients would not need to learn a new user interface either.

>I think Win8Pro is a great idea. However, they have a few disadvantages: limited number of available models, meaning a higher price; and a relatively short battery life.

Yes, in this specific scenario, since it's a customized application where we control the environment and give all support, and we talk about only 3 to 4 terminals, it would make sense to not invest in a rewrite of the application, even if it's only one user interface. For that I am happy that Microsoft provides that solution. The battery life is a concern, although they would sell no longer than 3 hours, it could be an issue, especially when they forget to recharge fully in time and then run out of power while they are on the street. On the other hand they must have a car close by, so they can do a quick recharge if necessary. I have a Surface Windows RT and it does charge very quickly. Windows 8 Pro will use more power I expect.
