As a login from a different machine resets the lists, I tend to leave UT in one browser tab and read in breaks or when waiting on some program task - showing me online, when only the machine is. Easier to move to that machine than renavigate in newly opened tab on other machine. As Michel verifies an ID is only logged in once, for me the easiest way to get back where I was. Showing "online" for such behaviour is only a weak case. Checking for last keystroke and updating might be possible, but might be considered private info.
