You must remember that this translation is over 400 years old and some of the English phrases are outdated. That does not mean they are wrong, we see the same in older translations from Cicero or Socrates, and still they are used in schools. I think the best modern day expression would be "appoint/allocate/designate the name" if you want to update it. On the other hand, everybody knows what is meant and it would be a little bit strange if someone would claim he cannot understand the meaning of that passage because of the old fashioned expressions.
