>Brenda, you might be heartened to know that I had 3 semesters of COBOL in college (I graduated in December 96). We edited, linked and compiled in VAX COBOL 85, but once got to sit in on a seminar where they were using OBJECT COBOL!!! Talk about rearranging the chairs on the Titanic...

listen young whipper snapper, do not make me hit you with my cane. for better or worst, COBOL will be here until you start collecting social security (which i think is now set somewhere at age 68 for your age group). there is too much big corporate $$$ invested in it. the IBM mainframe software has the support staff and the utilities necessary to run large corporate applications. of course as a percent of total software written, it is becoming a smaller and smaller percentage. there are just so many more languages. but there is still a ton of cobol code being written everyday - hell you NEED a ton just to write a report. ok, one last rap with the cane. it seems to me that COBOL's future is much more secure than FoxPro's. not that COBOL is a better language. but hey, life is not always fair. time to go. there is a rerun of the golden girls on the boob tube. that betty white is such a sketch.

have a good weekend
