>>>Its strange how the co-operative nature of the house republicans could be repaid like this .I'm baffled.

>>They are not cooperative in the least. They are warriors. They think they were sent to Washington to defeat the other side rather than get anything done.

>>Our political system sucks at the moment, both sides guilty. My favorite politician ever was Olympia Snowe, a Republican, who was killed from within her own party. My father knew her and contributed to her campaigns. She declined to run for reelection, a slam dunk, because she didn't recognize her party any more. She said as much in her goodbye speech. When politicians like Olympia Snowe are driven out of the political process there is a problem.

>She was republican in name only. She was more liberal and sided with the dems almost on every vote.

I knew someone was going to say RINO, although I was predicting it would be Marcia.

She was truly someone I admired. I wish we had a hundred just like her in the Senate, despite her party. She voted her conscience. Maine has a great history of voting for good politicians. She was elected for three terms in the Senate, every time by more than the time before. She would have easily been elected for a fourth term if she had not stepped aside. Her campaign signs were simplicity itself: Olympia.
