Title:
MAPI vs direct SMTP
I am not sure if I understand, so let me know if I'm off base. It seems that a VFP application needing to e-mail a document (e.g., PDF file) can send it through an installed e-mail program (Eudora or web browser) via the MAPI interface, or send it directly to an SMTP server on the net. These are mutually exclusive choices, right?
Assuming the above, what are the advantages of the two approaches, other than the following:
MAPI -
Allows user to alter message or recipients prior to pushing 'send'. On completion puts message in 'sent messages' folder.
Direct SMTP -
Easier to set up on client computer.
Is this the jist of it?
Thanks.
