Yes, not necessary. But most views do.
BTW, I just discussed it with my colleague here (I am on the round-up right now in NM). In VS 2012 there is a way to test it using Coded UI test. He doesn't use it.
So, essentially, to test a view you would need to run the site.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
