>With an non-static web site, you need something on the server to process the requests, gather the data, etc. That can be php, ruby on rails, or asp.net. In the end, if you want to display something in the browser, it has to be flash, html, activex, etc. People are moving away from non-html solutions. Even asp.net renders everything as html. One of the problems with asp.net is that it posts back the entire page...a lot.

It automatically uses things like jQuery Validation to do client side validation before posting. So, when you say, .Net web tools, I hope you're meaning standard ASP.Net and not MVC.

>>I don't know the answer (yet) to how you get data in and out, which is obviously a requirement in any serious business app. Where I am coming from is that there is clearly a lot of momentum behind the HTML/CSS/JavaScript/jQuery approach. If you look at MSDN Magazine lately, Microsoft has started mentioning JS right alongside C# and VB.NET. TypeScript is helping some traditional .NET developers get over their heebie jeebies at JS's lack of strong typing and classes. At a Code Camp here a few Saturdays ago there were quite a few sessions on topics like jQuery UI, TypeScript, and how to make your JS pages load faster. All of these were very well attended. (And so you don't think this was some open source freakfest, there was also a session on best practices in testing ASP.NET MVC apps, also well attended).

I was not advocating the HTML/CSS/JavaScript/jQuery approach over the web tools in .NET, just saying he might consider it as an alternative. He made it clear he is comfortable with C# and staying with the .NET web tools, it's just a question of which one. Which is fine. I am not trying to tell anyone what to do and do not have deep enough knowledge of any of this stuff to speak with any authority. At this point my knowledge is "a mile wide and an inch deep" ;-)

Mehachem Bezian has made several presentations to the VFP Philly Group on PHP with Code Igniter.
Basically, it looks and works like MVC as Menachim presented it.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
