>I haven't had a chance to read the opinions yet but from what I gather the Supremes ruled DOMA unconstitutional based upon violation of the equal protection clause, and decided that prop 8 is not in their juristiction and that the plantiff's did not have standing, thus leaving the 9th circuit's striking down of the law in place. There are a number of dissents, including a sharply worded on by Scalia.

Only one provision of DOMA was overturned, the one that precluded the federal government from recognizing same sex marriages from states that allow them. However, still standing (and, I suspect, next to be challenged) is a provision that allows one state not to recognize same sex marriages from another despite the Constitution's full faith and credit language.

Up in the air is how couples who were legally married in one state, but now live in another, will be handled for federal benefits. One person I heard yesterday indicated that it will vary, depending on what benefit it is.
