>You're way over cautious in this day and age. Yes, issues can get through, but the testing of new versions and updates is better than ever.

Then I take your comment to mean that no responsible corporation should use Microsoft products. Why would you sell (Microsoft) or use a product that shuts down a corporation? That is an irresponsible statement you made. So a corporation uses a Microsoft application and gets shut down because the application has problems. Not to fear – Microsoft will issue an update to “attempt” to resolve the issue.

If a company produces a product that can shut down a corporation, why would they consider that an update will solve it? Was adequate testing done before the product was released? Does Microsoft only test updates? Should a corporation attempt to protect itself with policies and procedures?

The company I was working for used a SQL server update without testing, which was against company policy. We were shut down for 3 working days. Microsoft had to send a crew in to resolve the problems. This was a company of 5700 people and almost all had to go home until the problem was resolved.

How many corporations do you know of that were shut down because they did not use the latest Microsoft update? I am not the only person in the world who is cautious. It is comments like yours that are irresponsible and do not take into account the reality of a situation.

Only you have the answers direct from the Microsoft gods and there is no room for comments from anyone else. Your experience is the only valid one and everyone else is to be dismissed.

Apple Computer was using Cray computers in its SQA department more than 20 years ago. I am not sure how they test today’s software. Apple software did not have the problems that Microsoft did during that period.

Software is likely to have problems, as humans were involved in its creation. When you run a corporation you have to take responsibility and define how you will use software and under what conditions.
