>>Did I miss something on Splashtop? I use it on my m ASUS transformer tablet, but it is just a way to remote in to a Windows box. I am not running a windows app on my tablet. Without a Windows box to remote in to there is no app to run.
Yep. So you buy the $399 21" tablet/desktop rather than the new Wintel PC, and keep running lock-in stuff remotely on the existing PC. Who misses out?
If Splashtop is so foolish as to start requiring W8 or something like that, consider the speed with which mechanisms were published to allow multiple simultaneous RDP logins. In 2013, contrivance to force people to upgrade or keep paying is no longer a smart lock-in strategy, it's an own-goal because it amplifies the difference between the grandpa box and hot new systems. Consider that a fully loaded 21" Android device is to be sold for less than half the price for the software alone if purchased from a grandpa box vendor.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
