Again in addition to what Erik has told you, the first thing that I would do would be to create a function to load an array with the child aliases. It's not terribly difficult to create one that handles the simple parent->child situation. If, however, you have to deal with parent->child->grandchild relations, then the function must recurse to build a relation tree.
