That would be very appealing for a Jewish messiah. But the Hellenistic Paulines were playing for bigger stakes and needed virgin birth to compete in the market of middle eastern mystery cults of first century C.E. where virgin birth and being son of a god was a sine qua non of being taken seriously by the gentiles.

But of course as the product of a virgin birth Jesus would have none of Joseph's DNA and would have no claim whatever to descent from the house of David, but by that time Christianity was not going to be a Jewish splinter group and the emphasis was on winning over the gentiles.

Once virgin birth made it into the Greek version of the Apostles' Creed at Nicea in 325 CE and the Arian heresy was completely edradicated from orthodoxy it become a moot point. Divine. Now the only question was "of the same substance" or "of a similar substance" and we are off to the Greek semantic races for a thousand years with humanity left in the dust.

>Yes, that is correct - this is from the Book of Matthew:
>
>1 This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:
>2 Abraham was the father of Isaac,
>Isaac the father of Jacob,
>Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
>3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,
>Perez the father of Hezron,
>
>Hezron the father of Ram,
>
>4 Ram the father of Amminadab,
>
>Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
>
>Nahshon the father of Salmon,
>
>5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,
>Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,
>
>Obed the father of Jesse,
>
>6 and Jesse the father of King David.
>David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
>7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam,
>
>Rehoboam the father of Abijah,
>
>Abijah the father of Asa,
>
>8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat,
>
>Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram,
>
>Jehoram the father of Uzziah,
>
>9 Uzziah the father of Jotham,
>
>Jotham the father of Ahaz,
>
>Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
>
>10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh,
>Manasseh the father of Amon,
>
>Amon the father of Josiah,
>
>11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah[c] and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
>12 After the exile to Babylon:
>
>Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,
>Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
>13 Zerubbabel the father of Abihud,
>
>Abihud the father of Eliakim,
>
>Eliakim the father of Azor,
>
>14 Azor the father of Zadok,
>
>Zadok the father of Akim,
>
>Akim the father of Elihud,
>
>15 Elihud the father of Eleazar,
>
>Eleazar the father of Matthan,
>
>Matthan the father of Jacob,
>
>16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.
>17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.

>>>>Bottom line is that I'm convinced that the Jesus was a lot more human, rational person who was trying to get into power in a non traditional way by uniting people (he needed everyone he could get) than the bible wants u to believe. The dead sea scrolls give a lot more clues pointing into this direction.
>>>
>>>In my teens I read this book that argues Jesus had claims to the Judean throne, I do not remember much of it now, but I remember that I really liked it.

>>Isn't it supposed to be that Jesus was a descendant of King David?

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
