Graves, the author of the book argues that Joseph was not Jesus father so he wouldn't be descendant of King David, instead he claims that Jesus was the son of Herod the Great's son. I am not saying he is right or wrong thou, just repeating what I read in the Wikipedia article, as for the book itself, as I said, the only thing I remember is that I liked it.
